Participant leader: Dr. Frédéric Y. Bois

    Relevant experience and laboratory resources:

INERIS is a large public research institute whose mission is to provide scientific and technical assistance to the French Ministry for the Environment. With a research staff of 520 persons, INERIS has extensive facilities and competence in toxicology in vitro, in vivo, and in silico. INERIS has experience in participating and managing large international projects, including from the EC: STSARCES (on safety-related systems), COPERNICUS ("Guide for fire and explosion protection of agro- and food industry"), ARAMIS ("Accidental Risk Assessment Methodologies in Industries", ESD Program, launched January 2002), ACUTEX (on acute toxicity prevention).

    Principal staff involved:

    Dr. Frédéric Y. Bois

Dr. Frédéric Y. Bois, Pharm.D., PhD., is an internationally known expert in quantitative toxicology and risk assessment. He has directed, at the University of California at Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, several research projects in the United States for the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institute of Health, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. He is member of the French Statistical Society, the Society for Mathematical Biology and the Society for Risk Analysis. He is a recipient of the American Statistical Association "Outstanding Statistical Application Award" and of the French Epidaure Prize for Environmental Health Research.

Dr Céline Brochot (F), has a PhD in biomathematics (University of Paris VI, France). The main subjects of her research are the development of physiologically based biokinetic models, the analysis of biokinetic in vitro and in vivo data with Bayesian statistics.

Role of the participant in the project and main tasks:

INERIS will be responsible for the co-ordination of WP5 and will contribute to the model development. In particular, INERIS will be in charge of the development of a generic PBPK model, and its integration into the integrated modelling approach.
